Allacta bimaculata, the second gen…. I mean attempt…

Hi guys, welcome again to another post. I need to learn how to be more consistent with the posts! Love writing them, but always find myself procrastinating.

So last time we visited this species and colony, the male had died, and I was left with 3 females, unsure if they had mated or not and they were laying oothecas.

Well, I patiently waited and waited but they didn’t hatch at all. Quite a shame, but guess its life.

But I didn’t want to give up on such cool looking species so I managed to source a batch of 30 nymphs ! from my good friend Orion, a local Chinese breeder, with a ton of species, always great packaging quality and overall fair and honest deals! In fact he sent me more than we agreed which was awesome from him!

Stunning like gold and black roaches, aren’t they?

This time, instead of housing them vertically, I decided to increase the overall volume of the soil, in order to retain humidity for longer periods, and decided to house them more horizontally. This seems to be having better results than before. I feel I may have overlooked this, last time.

The enclosure was probably not adequate with the levels of humidity and ventilation necessary for them to thrive.

Enclosure

This enclosure has a totally ventilated lid on the top, and to prevent escapes i just use a screen mesh under the lid.

Now time for some photos!

I hope second time’s the charm and not the third as they say! :D

Wish me luck! and thank you for taking the time to read!
